At the Drawing Academy we offer you a craft training at the highest level. In addition to the intensive practical work in our workshops, we teach you the theoretical basics of your training profession. Practice and theory are intertwined in the learning field concept.

Specialist area

Computer-Aided-Design (CAD)

In the CAD course (computer-aided design), trainees are trained in the use of the Rhinoceros 3D software. The course combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology.


Contents

    The trainees learn to create precise technical drawings, which are essential for practical implementation. This includes the basics of dimensioning, views and sectional views.The focus is on the development of digital models using Rhinoceros 3D. The trainees visualize their creative ideas in 3D models with all the necessary details and specifications.To present their designs professionally, the trainees create photorealistic renderings. These help to show designs to potential customers and support their own design development. They learn techniques for lighting, material selection and perspective.The course also includes an introduction to 3D printing. The trainees learn to prepare digital models for 3D printing and learn about the possibilities and limitations of this technology. This facilitates the quick and efficient creation of prototypes.


Goal

The aim is to offer trainees a sound training in the use of modern design and construction tools. They combine manual skills with digital technology and are thus ideally equipped for the demands of modern jewelry and metal design. Gemology

In the field of gemology at the State Academy of Drawing in Hanau, trainees learn comprehensive methods for examining and identifying colored gemstones, diamonds, pearls and organic substances. This course is essential for aspiring goldsmiths and setters, as it teaches the basics and advanced knowledge necessary for the professional handling and evaluation of gemstones.


Contents

    The trainees start with the basic chemical and structural properties of gemstones. They learn how the chemical composition and crystal structure affect the physical and optical properties of the stones. The trainees learn how to measure and analyze hardness, density, refractive index and birefringence in order to correctly identify gemstones. Light scattering and absorption, which affect the color effect and brilliance of the gemstones, are also covered.In addition, the trainees are trained in the use of various identification devices. The use of modern equipment such as the refractometer for measuring the refractive index, the polarizing microscope for examining birefringence and internal structures is intensively practiced.The trainees learn which properties determine the value of a gemstone and where and how gemstones are mined. Standardized designations and classifications according to RAL or CIBJO are also covered in order to become familiar with international trading standards.


Our goal is to provide trainees with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to correctly identify, evaluate and handle gemstones. By combining theoretical knowledge and practical exercises, trainees are prepared to process and care for gemstones professionally in their future professions.

In the technical knowledge department at the State Drawing Academy in Hanau, trainees receive comprehensive training that prepares them for the diverse requirements of metalworking and processing. The lessons cover a wide range of topics, from material science and various manufacturing processes to chemical processes and occupational safety.


Contents

    In the area of metallic materials and material testing, the trainees first learn about the classification of the different types of metal, their bonding types and specific properties. They deal intensively with the process of crystallization and the structure of metals in order to develop a deep understanding of the structure and properties of alloys. In addition, the mechanical properties of the materials and their practical applications are addressed.The manufacturing processes are another central component of the specialist course. Here, the trainees acquire knowledge of machining, such as turning and milling, as well as thermal processes such as soldering and welding. They learn the techniques of melting and casting, the forming of metals and the various methods of heat treatment. In addition, surface treatment and special techniques such as electroplating are covered in order to understand the diverse possibilities of metal finishing.The chemistry section of the course teaches the trainees important basics about acids, bases, alkalis, salts and processes such as pickling and white boiling. Art History

In the field of art history, talking about art is at the heart of the lessons. Trainees learn to look at, analyse and discuss works of art. This not only promotes their aesthetic understanding, but also their ability to understand works of art in their historical and cultural context.


Contents

    The course begins with image viewing, where trainees learn to look closely at works of art and identify their visual elements. This includes examining the composition, i.e. the arrangement of shapes and figures in the work of art, as well as analyzing the choice of color and shape and their effect on the viewer. The techniques and materials used and their influence on the work of art are also considered.Building on image viewing, trainees learn to analyze works of art systematically. This includes interpreting the scenes and symbols depicted, placing the work of art in its art historical context, and recognizing stylistic features. In addition, the artist and the influences that shaped his work are examined.The lessons are enriched by regular visits to museums, attractions, and the Goldsmiths' House in Hanau. These excursions offer trainees the opportunity to experience original works of art, which provides a deeper understanding and a stronger emotional connection. The trainees can apply and deepen their knowledge in real museum situations and encounter a wide range of works of art from different eras and cultures.

The drawing department at the Hanau Drawing Academy is designed to give our trainees a deep aesthetic understanding. Here, the aspiring designers learn to consciously perceive the world around them and to represent it aesthetically. The line, the play of light and shadow, the nuances of color and form - all of this is covered in our drawing courses.

    In representational drawing, the focus is on the lifelike representation of objects. The trainees learn to accurately capture and reproduce proportions, perspectives and details. These skills are fundamental for any further creative work, as they train a precise eye and a steady hand.In job-related presentation drawing, special attention is paid to the representation of jewelry, equipment and objects. The trainees learn how to professionally put the corresponding bodies on paper, including the representation of materials, textures and reflections. This skill is particularly important in precious metal design professions.Basic drawing instruments such as pencils, colored pencils and charcoal are used for fine detail work and shading. With watercolors, the trainees learn to depict color compositions, color contrasts and color transitions for surfaces. Modern drawing tablets and sketching programs open up new possibilities in the digital field.

In the German area, trainees receive comprehensive training in verbal and written communication. The course includes writing training certificates, appropriate use of modern media, and communication and argumentation techniques. These skills are essential for everyday professional life and contribute to the successful professional development of trainees.

Particular emphasis is placed on the structure and organization of the reports to ensure clear and comprehensible documentation. The factual and professional language style meets the requirements of professional communication, and the accurate reproduction of work processes and learning content is a central element.Another important component of the course is the safe and professional use of modern media. Trainees learn how to use digital tools and platforms for information research, documentation and communication. The professional use of social media for self-marketing and communication in a professional context is covered.The development of communication and argumentation techniques is another focus. Trainees practice expressing themselves effectively and clearly orally in various professional situations, including presentations and customer meetings. They discuss the effects on concentration, data protection and interpersonal relationships in order to develop balanced usage behavior.The influence of jewelry and art on society is another central point. Here the trainees analyze how jewelry and art reflect and shape cultural identities and social values. They learn to understand the meaning of artistic forms of expression and aesthetic designs in a social context.

The trainees learn about the different types of insurance, including social insurance, liability insurance, occupational disability insurance and retirement provision. They learn which insurances are relevant to them personally and professionally and how they can best protect themselves.Starting a business and marketing are also central topics of the course. The trainees learn the basics by running a student company. They are familiarized with the marketing mix, the start-up roadmap and the creation of a business plan. This practical knowledge enables them to develop their own business ideas and implement them successfully.Legal basics form another important part of the lessons. The trainees deal with labor law, occupational health and safety, purchase contract law and protective rights. They learn about the relevant legal provisions and find out how they can exercise their rights and obligations in their professional life.
